Lesson №4. Adjectives and its forms
Lekanta №4. Tesparus å devis paħå
An adjective is an independent part of speech, denoting a feature of an object and answering the questions “which?” (Auf?), “Whose?” (Kro?) and so on. In Novial, adjectives are NOT related to any gender and are NOT declined by cases, and may NOT also have a short form. However, they have two different forms, therefore, there are singular and plural.
In Novial, adjectives are quite structured and have definite endings that are not amenable to change and are always stable in nature. There are no special exceptions regarding this part of speech.
The endings of the adjectives in the singular are:
-au; -ou; -eļ; -ì;
For example:
andau - big
vekou - common
bjeļ - beautiful
molvì - cute

The endings of the adjectives in the plural are:
-aut; -out; -eļt; -ìt;
For example:
andaut - big [Андот]
vekout - common [вЭкут]
bjeļt - beautiful [бьЕльт]
molvìt - cute [молвИйт]

Comparative degree of adjectives
Sometimes we need to compare some things with each other and then we need to know in what form the adjective should be put. The ending of the comparative degree is:
-ejš .
Let's take for example the word "bernou" (good).
Here we have the ending "ou". Insert the ending of the comparative degree, that is, simply replace one with another. In this way:
bern
ou (good) => bern
ejš (better).
To compare things to each other, we need the auxiliary word “than” - lesh. For instance:
His house is better than ours. - Evis honisc ìt bern
ejš, lesh nekk.
Superlative degree of adjectives
A Superlative degree means that a sign manifests itself in one subject to the greatest or the least.
The structure of the superlative degree of adjectives goes as follows:
ne-...-ejš.
Let's take, for example, the word "kůlou" (magical).
Here we have the ending "ou". Insert the ending of the superlative degree, that is, simply replace one with another. We also add forward the prefix "ne", which creates a superlative degree. In this way:
kůl
ou (magical) =>
nekůl
ejš (the most magical).
For example:
Our castle is the most magical in the world! - Nekk honim ìt
nekůl
ejš telé!
